Hats off to all those "Ma's"

It's lambing season! Life is getting quite busy. We have about 25 new lambs already. Yesterday I got the amazing oppurtunity to watch a sheep lamb. I had just come into the sheep barn to gather buckets to water when i saw what was going on. It was amazing how well the "Ma" took care of her baby right away. As soon as the baby came out the mom hurried over to lick off the sack so the lamb could take its first breath. After about 1 minute the baby lamb took its first Baaa. It was the cutest thing in the world. What a miracle. The mother was so proud of her baby that she would flutter her ears as she cleaned up her baby. The better the mom the more time she spends licking her babies clean. This mom in particular licked her baby for 40 mins. Yes, I watched that long. After about 5 min of being licked the baby lamb was already trying to stand up. At 10 min the lamb was able to stand and do the wobble walk looking for the nipple. Just amazing!
Sheep can have many genetric disorders. This lamb had what is called parrot mouth. The lamb's bottom muzzle is shorter than the top. This can make eating difficult. Some can drink from its mom but many have problems. The larger problem comes when the sheep are suppose to eat hay when they are older. The sheep just can't chew the hay properly and get the hay swallowed. These are pictures of the lamb with parrot mouth.

Oh! and I almost forgot one of the old ladies in the sheep shed is pretty large and pregnant. She lays next to the shed door and about every 30 seconds she moans. It is so cute i really should get a recording of it! lol! She looks so goofy as she just lays there chewing on her cude moaning. But you need to picture an older sheep!

As you can tell i love the sheep! This is my sheepy boyfriend when i am in the corral he tends to follow and nudge me. He is a doll!
